What is the Cost of Inspection

Our pricing depends on the size and complexity of the solar installation, including the inverter capacity, battery system, and the number of distribution boards that require testing.

The Inspection fee is R1250 for the inspection excluding any necessary repairs.

When does a client require a Solar CoC?

A Solar CoC (or supplementary CoC covering the alternative power supply) is required when a solar PV system, inverter, battery system, or any alternative power supply has been installed and connected to the property’s fixed electrical installation.

This includes:

New solar PV installations.
Inverter and battery backup systems connected to the electrical installation.
Alterations or additions to an existing solar installation.
When selling a property where a solar system has been installed and forms part of the electrical installation.
Where required by the local authority or the electricity supplier for Small-Scale Embedded Generation (SSEG) approval.

The installation must comply with the applicable requirements of SANS 10142-1 and, where applicable, the municipality’s SSEG requirements.

What are the risks of not obtaining a Solar CoC?

Failure to obtain the required CoC may result in:

The installation is not complying with the Electrical Installation Regulations.
Potential safety hazards, including electric shock, fire, or equipment damage.
Difficulties when selling the property, as the purchaser may request proof that the solar installation complies with the regulations.
Insurance claims potentially being rejected if an incident is linked to a non-compliant or uncertified installation.
The local authority or electricity supplier requires the system to be disconnected until it complies with the applicable requirements.
Delays or rejection of SSEG applications where municipal approval is required.

A compliant Solar CoC provides assurance that the installation has been tested, complies with the applicable regulations, and is safe to operate.

Our Process

Complete the Online Inspection Form

Fill out our easy-to-use online inspection instruction form to get started. Provide your property details and contact information.

Schedule the Inspection

Our back office team will contact you to arrange a convenient date and time for the inspection to take place.

Conduct the Inspection

A licensed WDO inspector will visit your property and examine all exposed and reachable timbers within a 50-meter radius.

Receive the Inspection Report

We will provide a detailed digital inspection report, including pictures, outlining the condition of the inspected timber and structures. You will also receive an invoice for the inspection (unless you opted for the “payment on transfer” option).

Infestation Treatment Quote (if needed)

If any infestations are discovered, we will inform you and provide a quote for the recommended treatments to eradicate the pests.

Approve the Treatment

Once you approve the quote, our qualified pest control operators will perform the necessary treatments to eliminate the infestations.

Issue the WDO Certificate

After the treatment is completed, we will issue a Wood Destroying Organisms (WDO) Certificate, certifying that your property is free of wood-destroying pests.

Alternative Options

If you choose not to accept our treatment quote, you can engage another qualified WDO inspector or pest control operator to perform the treatment and issue the certificate. In this case, the inspection fee remains payable to Bugs & Sparks.
